Our “Lighting the Nude” workshop covers the key aspects of working with studio lighting to create art nudes, including:
Equipment basics;
strobes and modeling lights
use of umbrellas, soft boxes, grids, snoot, gels
Lighting Techniques;
hard vs soft light
fall off - when and how to use it
use of key, fill and kickers
breaking the rules for special effects!
By the end of the workshop you will have learned how to use studio lighting to shoot the art nude in multiple ways; glamour, film noire, bodyscapes, high key and more!
Out “Abstract Nude” workshop takes the subject of the art nude and creates images which contrast to classic poses and draw on perspective, composition and lighting to make the photographs.
We draw inspiration from great photographers in this genre, such as Bill Brandt, Frantisek Dirktol and Ralph Gibson.
Abstract nudes are often among the most successful in being accepted by art galleries and in winning photography competitions!
Our “Bodyscapes” workshop explores a simple, yet powerful approach to working with the human figure. Light and shadow, using either hard or soft light, give the body a sense of depth and simplicity which is visually appealing.
We discuss the use of Bodyscapes as an important skill that can be applied to the work of boudoir, fine art and even portrait photograhers.
By the end of the workshop, you will have mastered the use of different lighting techniques to create great images of the “Bodyscape” your own portfolio.
Our “Boudoir Photography” workshop explores both the business and creative aspects of what has become a very popular segment of the photography market.
As our workshop that has the most commercial application, we begin with a discussion of some of the business aspects of boudoir photography, including marketing, client contract, legal issues and how to maximize the value of the sale.
We then demonstrate both the classic lighting and poses for glamour photography, but also abstract as well as sensual, intimate images. The result is for you to have images for your own basic boudoir photography portfolio.
In essence, the Boudoir Photography workshop applies many of the skills and creative elements in our other workshops to show how to work with a client to have a successful photo session and satisfied client.
Helmut Newton once said “Any photographer who says he’s not a voyeur is either stupid of a liar.” In addition, most art nude models have at least some degree of exhibitionism in their personality.
The concept of the “Photographer as Voyeur” workshop is to explore this themes, in the setting of a workshop, where the model is aware and a participant in the process of creating images that have a voyeuristic quality.
We use locations that are suited to this concept and the photographers are given the challenge of shooting the model with the requirement that the images portray the element of voyeurism and eventually exhibitionism as the subject (model) becomes aware of the photographer.
Always a fun and entertaining workshop for all that produces great images!
Our “Anonymous Nude” workshop is intended to prepare the photographer to work with a friend or acquaintance who may love the idea of being a subject or muse for an art nude photographer, but desires to maintain her anonymity.
We discuss and then show how different lighting and posing techniques can be used to effectively create art nude images that capture the imagination of the viewer, without revealing the identify of the subject.
At the end of the workshop, photographers have learned and applied techniques and will have a portfolio that illustrates how they would work with the “Anonymous Nude.”
Our “The New Erotic Photography” is a workshop which draws it’s inspiration from the popular book series of the same name edited by Dian Hanson, featuring the photography of Eric Kroll, Ralph Gibson, Richard Kern and many others.
In the workshop we create images that are edgy and erotic, yet tasteful and which do not cross the line to the sleazy or pornographic. The lighting, posing, location, props and creativity of the model are all key elements to the success of this workshop.
The result of the workshop is to have created a portfolio of images that explore the erotic element of art nude photography. Another fun and creative workshop in our series!
Our “The Rustic Nude” workshop draws on an appreciation for the rural heritage which is part of the history of every country. We seek to preserve these farm houses, barns, windmills, and other rural structures, in many case rapidly disappearing, through the timeless quality of photography.
The workshop uses these locations, the quality of light, and the figure of the art nude model to bring beauty and the recognition of times past in these images. When natural light is limited or not available, we use off camera flash to create images that capture the imagination and the unique qualities of these locations. Of course, we also find and use suitable “4 x4” models who love to shoot in the outdoors for these workshops!
Another example of our conceptual approach to the art nude, our “Rustic Nude” workshops are always an adventure where the past meets the present.
Our “Nude in Nature” workshop brings together the beauty of natural settings and the human figure. We visit locations with impressive rock formations, deserts, trees and bodies of water to create images that contrast the shapes and structure that exist in nature with strong composition and visual appeal.
The workshop discusses the technical aspects of working in a natural environment, including high contrast between direct sun and shadow, composition, and of course we plan the logistics to get to the great locations at the time best suited for photography.
At the end of the workshop, you will be rewarded with images that add to the diversity and creativity of your portfolio, and also will have experienced a bit of adventure photography!
